3-4 years old
My mother began reading books to my siblings and I at a young age. I remember the books being about fairytales. They would usually end with my siblings and I role playing the books. -
Kindergarten
We began to build up our vocabulary with new spelling words each week. I remember my teacher would read to us short stories in a carpet. -
First Grade
In first grade I remember reading a new book everyday as a class. We would use tape recorders to follow along. This also helped us build our vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. -
Second &Third
During these years I remember visiting public libraries and taking various of books home. I like picture books and princess fairytales. -
Fifth Grade
This year was when I began to focus on chapter books. I remember reading a lot of Junie B. Jones books. I remember getting an entire collection during a book fair. -
Homework During Elementary
We were assigned to read every night for 30 minutes. Our parents were required to sign our reading log. I remember buying a big book that had many different stories inside of it so I had a new story for each night. I also remember my teachers letting me borrow books from their personal shelves. -
Middle School
Throughout my middle school years I began to focus on reading non-fiction books. I loved to read romance books and history books. I felt a lot of comfort in books. I remember my librarian would help me pick books that she believed I would enjoy reading. -
Middle School Reading During Class
I remember reading books as a class in English. We would be called to read out loud so that always kept us following along. I always enjoyed reading books as a class because the books always contained a life lesson. I also enjoyed writing about the characters and setting descriptions. -
High School
During high school I remember mostly reading about romance in my free time. I enjoyed reading books that were popular during my years of high school for instance "A Fault in our Stars." -
The Importance of Reading
Personally for me reading was an escape of reality. I really enjoyed it throughout my years of school, and often wished I had more free time to continue. Reading is the best way to improve your vocabulary and expand your mindset.
