    It helped the United States expand its power in the Asia-Pacific region. The U.S. was able to access more natural resources at a low price. Since the purchase, the U.S. increased about 586,000 square miles.

    Alexander Graham Bell invents the telephone
    Alexander Graham Bell's original attempt to send voice signals was through a telegraph wire. Bell's first successful transmitted words were, "Mr. Watson, come here. I want you." This invention allowed for wider communication.
  • Thomas Edison brings light to the world with the light bulb

    Thomas Edison brings light to the world with the light bulb
    Thomas Edison's reason for this invention was to find a way to replace gaslight in an inexpensive way. The light bulb worked by having electricity pass through platinum filaments. Edison had only been able to have it burn for 13.5 hours.

    It's opening held its purpose as an immigration station. Mainly European immigrants entered through the island. The federal govt. made sure the immigrants did not carry any diseases.

    What caused it was the tension between the foreign and domestic powers. A secret society made up of martial artists led the battle. Their main targets were Christians and foreigners.

    The act was passed due to the contents of poisonous foods and substances such as liquors and medicines. Harmful chemicals that were found in foods and medicines were made illegal. Before animals were to be sold for their meat, they would have to go through inspections.

    The United States wanted to follow through with this decision in hopes of removing the barrier between them and South America. It allowed goods to be shipped in a quick and cheap manner. Many workers have passed away because of the sickness from mosquito bites.

    Wilson made this decision because of Germany's attack on merchant ships with their submarines. The United States previously chose not to involve itself in the war after the effects of the Pearl Harbor bombing. The U.S. joined forces with the allies.

    Women got the right to vote
    The 19th amendment granted suffrage to American women. Before receiving this privilege, they fought for it through decades of protesting. Suffrage organizations were made in goals on having the amendment ratified, and President Wilson later supported it.
