    Eastern Orthodox

    The Eastern Orthodox was founded by Jesus Christ. It split from Early Christianity because of a complex mix of religious disagreements and political conflicts
  • 1517

    Lutheran

    It was 1517 when Martin Luther put up his 95 Theses to the door of his Catholic church, criticizing the Catholic sale of indulgences (pardons for sins) and casting doubt on papal authority. Lutheranism split from Protestantism.
  • 1534

    Anglican

    The Anglican Church, or the Church of England, was formed after they split from the Roman Catholic Church with King Henry VIII in 1534. The split from the Roman Church was because the pope refused to grant the king an annulment.
  • 1560

    Presbyterian

    Founded in the 1560's by John Calvin and John Knox. Presbyterianism split from the Roman Catholic Church. Presbyterians were opposed to the hierarchy and religious teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Baptist

    Baptist Churches were founded in 1609 by John Smyth. The Baptists separated from the Church of England because they believed church membership should be voluntary and that only believers should be baptized.
  • Methodist

    Founded by John Wesley, Methodist Churches were formed after they split from The Church of England in 1784 because of a shortage of ordained ministers in America after the Revolution, the Bishop of London refused to ordain a Methodist for the United States.
  • Uniting Chuch

    The Uniting Church of Australia was formed when the Congregational Union of Australia, the Methodist Church of Australasia and the Presbyterian Church of Australia all merged together. The Uniting Church was founded in 1977. (Hard to find information on)
  • Hillsong Church UK

    Brian Houston and Bobbie Houston founded the Hillsong Church in the United Kingdom in 1983. (Again, really hard to find information on)
