Created by Henry Clay, it said Maine would be free and Arkansas would be slave. Said that all states above the 36.30 line were free, all below were slave. With the exception of Missouri. -

South Carolina didn't like a tax. They threatened to leave the union if the tax wasn't removed. -
Compromise of 1850
It was made by Henry Clay. It said that California would be free and the slave trade would be illegal in Washington D.C. It also said that congress wouldn't make anti-slavery laws in the remaining territories won from the Mexican War. -
Fugitive Slave Act
Said that slaves that had escaped to the North could be taken back to the south. It caused tension between the North and the South. -
Bleeding Kansas
John Brown attacked pro-slavery people in revenge for the pro-slavery people attacking the anti-slavery people. -
Dredd Scott Decision
Dredd Scott was a slave. He went to a free state and sued for his freedom. His argument was "I'm in a place where slavery is illegal. I'm a slave. That means I'm free!" His case went all the way to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court said this, he was property. Property has no rights. He did not have the right to sue someone. He is not free. -
Attack on Harpers Ferry
Led by John Brown, he and some other people planned to capture the weapons arsenal at the base. -
Election of 1860
Abraham Lincoln wins the election. He is the 16th president.
