  • SmartBus services begin

    The first SmartBus service begun on 5 August 2002
  • NightRider bus overhaul

    NightRider network overhauled. The logo and branding were replaced, and operators of several routes changed. New routes were created and services doubled.
  • Connex replaced by Metro

    Metro replaces Connex as Melbourne's train operator
  • Myki rollout begins

    The initial Melbourne metropolitan roll-out for myki began, seeing myki valid for travel on Melbourne metropolitan train services
  • Transport Integration Act passed

    The Transport Integration Act, the most significant transport statute in a generation, is passed by the Victorian Parliament
  • Route 601 begins

    Express bus service from Huntingdale Station to Monash University Clayton Campus is trialled
  • Myki Introduced

    Monthly and Weekly Metcards no longer available
  • Metlink replaced by Public Transport Victoria

    PTV formally commences activities, including taking over the marketing of public transport in Melbourne from Metlink
  • Improvements to bus routes made

    Changes made to 140 Melbourne bus routes. Public Transport Victoria Chief Executive Ian Dobbs says the changes are designed to provide improved services to the city's bus lines.
