SANNC
The SANNC (South African Native National Congress) was a political party formed by John Langalibalele Dube and some other noticeable figures from South Africa in Bloemfontein, South Africa. The SANNC's main goal was to stop the racial segregation that was going on from the white minority in South Africa and to come together as one.

Birth
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born in Mvezo, South Africa and was one of the nine Christian children.

ANC
The previous SANNC changed their name to the ANC (African National Congress). They did so because they wanted to help fight for equality in all African countries as well.

University of Fort Hare
While enrolled at the University of Fort Hare, Nelson Mandela studied law ans was aspired to be a judge. He was later expelled because he led a political strike with a group of students. He attended a total of 5 colleges in his lifetime.

ANCYL
Nelson Mandela and four of his colleagues co-founded the ANCYL (African National Congress Youth League). The ANC decided to branch off and create a younger branch. Mandela would eventually work up the ranks to be the ANCYL National Secretary then to be the President.

Defiance Campaign and First Arrest
The Defiance Campaign was the first attempt at mobilizing against the apartheid laws. While that was going on, Mandela was and 19 others were charged with nine months of jail time for breaking the Suppression of Communism Act.

ANC is Banned
The ANC was deemed unlawful and was banned by the laws of apartheid.

Rivonia raid
The police raided the ANC headquarters at Liliesleaf Farm. THe police arrested the the leaders of the ANC including Mandela. -
Sentenced to Life
Eight defendants (including Mandela) were sentenced to life at the Rivonia Trial. They were unjustly accused guilty for conspiracy of trying to overthrow the state. his mother died while he was in jail.

ANC Returns

Prison Release
After serving 27 years in jail from the Rivonia Trial, Mandela was released just nine days after the ANC was unbanned. He was later elected Deputy President of the ANC a month later. His release signified the end of the apartheid regime.

Nobel Peace Prize
Nelson Mandela and current President FW de Klerk was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for putting an end to the apartheid regime and establishing equal rights for all Africans.

Mandela was elected and inaugurated as the first president of the new democratic Republic of South America.

Mandela's Death
In his last living years on this Earth, Mandela was fighting the struggles of Respiratory tract infection. He spent his 93rd birthday in the hospital. He later died at his house in Johannesburg.
