Founding members included leaders from the first professional male survivor conference that took place in 1988. Since then it has been moving forward on several fronts, from organizing National Conferences , creating on-line chat support groups, Weekend Recoovery services and their Dare to Dream Program. -

The Boston Globe Spotlight Investigation, Abuse in the Catholic Church
Abuse by priests and cover-up in the Archdiocese of Boston released a flood of disclosures by victims who had been sexually abused in childhood by clergy across the country. Though many girls were victimized by priests and nuns the media’s focus on lawsuits by primarily male victims was the first time that sexual victimization of boys was widely acknowledged. -

The mission of 1in6 is to help men who have had unwanted or abusive sexual experiences in childhood live healthier, happier lives. 1in6 offers outreach, education and services, in person and over the web, to men with histories of unwanted or abusive childhood sexual experiences and anyone who cares about them. We also provide professional trainings. -

Oregon Male Survivors and Support Services
Oregon Male Survivors and Support Services Specialized services for male survivors have historically been limited in Oregon and across the country. Although rape crisis centers serve all genders, The Coalition is committed to helping advocates build resources around male support groups, advocacy, gender inclusive outreach materials and prevention. Our partnership with 1in6 will help strengthen our statewide network of services. -

Big Voice Pictures Produces 'Boys and Men Healing'
Boys and Men Healing, produced by Big Voice Pictures.
Boys and Men Healing is a documentary about the impact the sexual abuse of boys has on both the individual and society, and the importance of healing and speaking out for male survivors to end the devastating effects. Big Voice Pictures 'headquarters is in Ashland, Oregon, but film screenings have been facilitated throughout the country and globally. -
Oprah 200 Men Two-part Show
Oprah 200 Men, a groundbreaking two-part program on sexual abuse of boys.
This was a partnership between Oprah Winfrey, 1in6 and Tyler Perry. It brought 200 adult men who had experience sexual abuse in childhood to her show to highlight the experiences of male survivors for a wide audience. -
A Spike in Calls from Male Survivors Following Oprah's 200 Men
The Coalition received an increase in calls from rape crisis advocates who sought technical assistance with resources for male survivors. Coalition staff set up a referral process with 1in6 for specialized resources and training. A link to 1in6.org is now available on the Coalition website. Programs and community partners continue to call Coalition staff for technical assistance around serving male survivors of sexual violence, and community engagement around this is strong. -

Two former Syracuse University ball boys disclosed that had been molested by SU’s Assistant Basketball Coach Bernie Fine from the late 1970s to the 1990s. Fine denied the charges. SU’s head men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim termed the charges against Fine, “…not true.” -
