  • The Beginning

Tim Berners-Lee is a British Scientist that made the WWW in 1989. When Tim made the WWW, he was working at CERN. The WWW was originally supposed to be able to do automatic info sharing between scientists around the world.

    e

In 1989, TIm wrote a proposal to the idea of the WWW. In 1990, Tim wrote a second proposal. These proposals made the concepts for the web, and the defined important terms. By the end of 1990, Tim had the first web server on a NeXT computer that demonstrated his ideas.
  • First Website and Web Server

The first website and web server to be launched, was info.cern.ch. This website had information about the project of the WWW, the description of hypertext, details on how websites could be created, and had links to websites, when they were released.
  • Going Global

The first web server came online with the help of Paul Kunz, and Louise Addis. At the time, there was only 2 types of web servers, which is original development version and line up. Original development versions were only available on NeXT computers. Line up browser was easy to download, but had little power and user friendliness.
  • Early Browsers

NCSA released a browser called mosaic browser. It was good for researching, and was user friendly. April, CERN released the source code, and then there was 500 known websites.
  • Internet Skyrockets

By the end of 1994, the web had 10,000 servers, and 10 million users. Security, and ecommerce were the most important additions to the web.
