London summer olympics
Shortly (4 years) after World War Two, with only two years preperation time, the Olympic torch was lit on the 29th july 1948. There were 17 events and only 59 countries or nations took part! For the first time ever Olympic pictograms were introduced they were called 'Olympis symbols'. There were 20 of them, 1 for each sport and 3 for the arts competition and the opening and closing ceremonies. The games were broadcasted on television for the first time. The 1948 London Olympics was a success. -
Munich air disaster
The Munich air disaster happened on 6th February 1958, when British European Airways Flight 609 crashed on its third attempt to take off from a slush-covered runway at the airport in Munich. There were 38 passangers including the Manchester United football team, 7 of the team passed away in the crash and one died 15 days later in hospital. As a memorial The Munich clock is on the side of Old Trafford bearing the words: Feb 6th 1958 Munich. -
World Cup sucess
England win the football world cup at Wembley beating west Germany 4-2. The first goal was scored by Haller from Germany but 6 minutes later Geoff Hurst scored the equalizer. Then in the 78th minute Martin Peters scored and everybody thourght that was it... Until the last minute when Wolfgang Weber scored to make it 2 a piece and the game went into extra time. But in extra time Hurst had the time of his life scoring two goals and gaining a hat-rick and an England World cup victory! -
Graham Hill wins triple
Graham Hill won at Le Mans in a Matra-Simca achieving an absolute amazing triple: World Campion,Indionapolis 500 winner and Le-Mans 24-hour classic winner. -
Ryder Cup
In 1985 Europe won an amazing victory over America for the first time in 40 years. Europe won 16 1/2 to 11 1/2 In an incredible Ryder Cup. -
Steve Redgrave Wins Gold
Sir Steve redgrave won his last medal at Athens in 2000 making his medal collection 6 and boosting him into the most succesful British Olympian in history until 2012 when Sir Chris Hoy took over. -
England win world cup
On saturday 22nd November 2003 England won the World cup the first people to win it in the Northern Hemisphrere. Johnny Wilkinson won it though, 26 seconds to the finish he did an amazing drop-kick to win the unforgettable title of the World Cup! -

London olympics 2012
In 2012 London hosted the Olympics for the third time. The city was well prepared and the games were a total sucess. Great Britian dominated all track cycling events they were in and Chris Hoy became the most succesful british olympian in history after enjoying 2 gold medals for a total of 7! Super Saturday was the most memorable night of the games though With Greg Rutherford, Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah all winning gold medals in various events.
