High School Begins
Chris enters Durfee High School. This is where he begins to become a high school basketball legend. He scores over 2,073 points in his career here. -
He has it All
Chris turns down offers from schools such as The University of Kentucky and Duke University to play at Boston College. -
Boston College
Chris Herren commits to Boston College. This is the first time he practices with the team. -
End of High School
Chris Herren's high school career comes to a close. Herren was named the Boston Globe and Gatorade Player of the year. He also was named to the McDonald's All-America Team. These three awards were those of what many high school players dream of. -
1993-1995
During this time period, Chris began to use many types of drugs. He failed several drug tests because of cocaine and marijuana. During this time he also broke his wrist and couldn't play. -
Transfering Colleges
Chris joins the Fresno State Bulldog basketball team for his sophomore year in college leaving behind Boston College. -
Failing Drug Tests
Chris failed a drug test and is suspended from the team. -
Rehab
Chris recovers from his addiction and gets released from rehab. He once again joins his team at Fresno State. -
NBA Draft
Chris gets selected number 4 overall to the Denver Nuggets. -
Boston Celtics
Chris's dream comes true and he gets traded to the Boston Celtics. -
Out of the League
Chris eventually gets dumped out of the NBA and is forced to play for teams overseas. During this time he starts to abuse painkillers. -
The Terrible Effects of Drug Abuse
Chris started to purchase and use crystal meth. He was found in a ditch in Fall River, MA. He had overdosed on Heroin for the second time. His drug problem was getting out of hand, and his family was being pulled down with him. -
It Becomes Worse
Chris was found in a Dunkin Donuts in Portsmouth, Rhode Island overdosed on Heroin. This is when he was charged with the possession and being under the influence of drugs. -
Rehab Again
Chris goes into rehab again and will be there for 4 years. -
Clean At Last
This was the first day Chris was clean of drugs and alcohol. Since then he has never relapsed into his old habits. -
Community Service
Chris donates to many charities and helps kids out by visiting schools. -
Hoops Dreams
Chris creates Hoops Dreams, a basketball organization where he coaches kids of all ages on the game of basketball. -
Basketball Junkie
Chris Herren writes the book Basketball Junkie. -
A Lesson
Chris explains that his book should be used to teach kids about not to do drugs and to choose the right pathway to follow in life.
