Cuyahoga Council For Retarded Children
The Cuyahoga Council For Retarded Children, which is now most commonly know as "The Arc of Illinos", started as a group of families that would get together every week to help teach disabled children who were not aloud to go to school. The Arc of Illinos is now one of the largest advocates for the disabled to recieve full participation in life. -
Brown vs Board of Education
The Brown vs Board of Education case was a huge landmark for the civil rights movement. This case was against segregated schooling between blacks and whites. The verdict was that separating public schools for whites and blacks was unconstitutional. -
The Education of the Handicapped Act
The act required all pubilc schools to provide equal access to education and one free meal a day for children with physical and mental disabilities -
Pennsylvania Asociation for Retarded Children
PARC v. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was the first right to education case in the United States. The verddicted provided equal education for all children -
Mills vs District of Columbia
This was a fight against the District of Columbia to allow disabled children a public education. This case began the change calling schools to provide educational sevices bstudased off of its students needs. -
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
Is a National law that is set that protects individuals with disabilities either physical or mental impairments from discrimination within te work place. -
The Education Amendments
Title IX, No person in the United States shall on the basis of sex be excluded from participation in,be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any education program or activity recieving federal financial assistance. -
The Handicapped Children’s Protection Act
This bill was introduced after the court decision of the Smith v. Robinson which established the primary legal device for enforcing handicapped rights in educatoin. The act enabled the provision of funds to assist states and local agencies in educating handicapped children. -
The Infants & Toddlers with Disabilities Act
This legislation obigates participating states to provide early intervention services to children with developmental disabilitiesvfrom birth to the age of 3, This act is referred to as Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA). -
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
The IDEA is now a federal law that governs the educational needs of children with disabilities from birth to the age of 18 or 21. -
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Amendments
President Clinton signed amendments to the Act that focus on improving the education of children with disabilities. It developes Individual education programs (IEP)- that focus on improving educational results through the general curriculum, educating children with disabilities with their non disabled peers, sets higher expectations for those who are disabled, strengthening the role of parents. -
The No Child Left Behind Act
NCLB requires states to develop assessments in basic skills to all stendents at selected grade levels. -
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act
provides partial funding to states to educate the nations more that six million students recieving special education students. involves parents in their childs education, schools provide appropriate support.
