Hurricane strikes Galveston!
This hurricane roared right through the city of Galveston, Texas with winds in excess of 130 miles per hour and a 15 foot storm surge! It left between 6,000 and 8,000 dead. -
Roosevelt Becomes President!
On September 14th, of 1901 Theodore Roosevelt became President of the United States after the assassination of President William McKinley. -
First aircraft invented!
The Wright brothers created the first ever controlled, contained flight in heavier-than-air aircraft at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. It so happened that the flight was 12 seconds traveling a whopping 120 feet with Orville piloting this aircraft. The best flight that happened that day was when Wilbur was at the controls with 852 feet being covered in 52 seconds. -
The U.S. enters World War 1!
After Germany sunk American merchant ships around the British Isles, America declared war on Germany on April 4th, 1917. -
Worldwide epidemic breaks out!
In 1918, a worldwide influenza epidemic breaks out and by 1920 killed nearly 500,000 in the U.S. and 20 million people worldwide. -
Armistice Day!
World War 1 ends on November 11th, 1918 with the signing of the Armistice, the Treaty of Versailles! This war in total left nine million soldiers dead and twenty-one million injured. -
Great Depression Starts!!
The stock market crashed meaning the Great Depression started!! The Great Depression was the worst economic downturn in the history of the United States, lasting from 1929 to 1939. -
U.S. enters World War 2!
After the Pearl Harbor bombing of December 7th, 1941, the United States entered WW2 by declaring war on Japan. -
World War 2 is over!!
The German armed forces surrendered to the Allies (The U.S.; Great Britain, and the Soviet Union) on May 7th, 1945. This surrender went into effect on the next day, May 8th. -
The Cold War Starts!
On March 12th, 1947, the Cold War started. The Cold War was when there was political tension between the United States and the Soviet Union, as well as their respective allies. They would continually antagonize each other by political maneuvering, military alliances, spying on others, propaganda, economic aid, arms buildups, and proxy wars among other nations. -
Public schools to stop segregating
The court case Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka Kansas declares that racial segregation is unconstitutional. This court case established the precedent “separate-but equal”, but the services and education wasn’t in fact equal to that of black people. -
Vietnam War Starts!
On November 1st, 1955, conflict broke out between North Vietnam and Viet Cong in the south. This similar thing happened in the Korea peninsula. -
The 49th State is here!
On January 3rd, 1959, Alaska became the 49th state to join the United States. -
All Fifty Nifty States are here!
On August 21st, 1959 Hawaii was the last state to be added to the United States. Instead of being bought like Alaska, they asked to join. -

On August 28th, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech before a crowd of 200,000 during the Civil Rights march in Washington D.C. -
President John F. Kennedy Assassinated
At the time, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, TX, which led to Vice President Johnson being inaugurated. -
Abortion is legal!
On January 22nd, 1973 the Supreme Court decided to legalize abortion in the first trimester of pregnancy. After this became legal, the abortion rate skyrocketed. -
First woman Supreme Court justice!!!
On September 25th, 1981 Sandra Day O’Connor was sworn in as the first woman Supreme Court Justice. -
Persian Gulf War is a thing now
On January 16th, the Persian Gulf War started! The U.S. lead international coalition in military operation to drive Iraqis out of Kuwait. -
Now it’s over. That was quick!
On February 28th, 1991 the Persian Gulf War ends and Iraq accepts the terms of the United Nations ceasefire.
