The French and Indian War
Britain and the colonists fought against France and the American Indians. The Britsh defeated France and the Indian allies and won control over eastern north America. -
Treaty of Paris
This treaty ended the war. The British kept Canada, the Great Lakes region, Ohio River Valley, and Florida. -
The Proclamation of 1763
This document stoped the colonists' expansion going farther west. The Proclamation was a declaration by the Britsh king, ordering all colonists to remain east of the Appalachian Mountains. -
Pontiac's Rebellion
An uprising by American Indians in the Great Lakes region. The British named it Pontiac's Rebellion after an Ottawa chief who organized an attack on Detroit.The Indians suprised and captured most of the British forts. -
The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was an incident in which British soldiers killed five colonists in Boston. The colonists hurled snowballs and rocks at the soldiers guarding the Customs House. The soldiers got nervous and fired into the crowd. -
The Boston Tea Party
Boston patriots boarded three British ships that carried tea. They dumped the tea into the Boston Harbor. It was a rptest against Britsh taxes. -
The First Continental Congress
In the fall, delegates from every colony except Georgia met in Philidelphia, Pennsylvania. To pressure the Parliament the delegates announced that they would boycott all of British imports. -
The Intolerable Acts
An American name for the Coercive Acts. Parliament passed this act in order to control the colonies. There were five laws that made up the Intolerable Acts. This forced the colonists to house Britsh soldiers and allowed Britsh officials to be tried in Britain for crimes committed in the colonies. One of the laws, the Quebec Act, extended Canada's southern border, cutting off lands claimed by several colonies.
