Timeline #4

  • 4.3 Language

    4.3 Language
My first language is English with Irish influences. In the beginning of my life I was raised predominately by my grandparents. They are from Ireland and speak English as well as Gaelic.
When I began living with my parents again I began to use less Gaelic words in my speech. The photo is of myself and my Papa who was a strong language influence in my early childhood.
The first word I spoke was "Hi" at 11 months.
  • 4.1 My first memory

    4.1 My first memory
My first memory that I can recall was at age 4. We put on a Mother's day performance in my pre-school class for all of the mom's.
This is probably the earliest I can remember because at around age four is when you can begin to remember memories.
  • 4.2 Intelligence

If I had to categorize myself into one of Gardner's Intelligence categories. I would say that I am more inclined verbally.
When I was in second grade we were doing a unit on poetry. I began to fall in love with poetry and wrote nearly everyday. My teachers would tell my parents that I used vocabulary words far beyond my grade level. My second grade teacher recently contacted me and let me know that she has kept the poems that I had written in her class.
  • 4.3B Language

At around age 5 I became hard of hearing as the result of an illness.
I was raised oral up until age 11 when I slowly began to learn sign language, but did not put the language to use until age 16 when I met other Deaf/Hard of Hearing people. I learned ASL from teachers, friends and the internet.
