  • The Proclamation of 1763

    This Act stated that colonists were forbidden from buying land that was west of the Appalachians. The colonist rebelled and did not listen to the proclamation.
  • Sugar Act

    This Act was when Parliament added taxes to many things like wine, coffee, textiles, and indigo that were being transported into the colonies. The colonist responded to this act by smuggling in items that were being taxed so that they would not have to pay the tax.
  • The Currency Act

    This act prohibited colonial governments from being able to issue paper and it required all taxes and debts to British merchants to be paid in British currency. The colonist responded to this act by protesting and demanding that they were not going to pay their taxes and their debt.
  • The Stamp Act

    This act required a tax to stamp legal documents, almanacs, newspapers, and pamphlets. Colonists responded to this act by boycotting British goods and intimidating stamp distributors into resigning. They also protested.
  • Quartering Act

    This act required the colonial government to let British soldiers occupy empty buildings and provide them with candles, bedding, and beverages. The colonist was enraged by this act.
  • The Declaratory Act

    This act declares that the British are allowed to make laws that are governing the colonist. In response, the colonist did nothing because the Sugar and Stamp Act had been appealed and taken away.
  • The Townshend Act

    This act gave new duties to the imports of glass, lead, paint, paper, and teas to the colonies. It also expanded the customs service and prevented colonial legislatures from exercising the power of the purse over the officials. The colonist responded by not buying goods, and, making their own replacements.
  • Boston Massacre

    This was a brutal and deadly riot that occurred between the colonists and British soldiers. The colonist responded to this by being a part of the riot by leaving 5 killed and 6 wounded.
  • Boston Tea Party

    This act was passed and it authorized East India to Bypass American wholesalers and sell tea directly to American distributers. The colonists responded to this by dumping 342 canisters of British tea into the Boston harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    These acts were 5 acts and laws that were passed to punish the colonist due to their actions at the Boston Tea Party. The colonists responded to this by boycotting and going on strike.
  • Quartering Act of 1774

    This act made local authorities not just in Massacuchets find suitable quarters for British Troops even in private homes if necessary. The colonists responded by disliking this act due to it leading to troops being able to stay in their home.
  • Quebec Act

    This act extended the boundaries of the province of Quebec south to the Ohio River and west to the Mississippi River. The colonists responded by associating it with the coercive act that became known as the "Five Intolerable Acts".
