The Boston Latin school is formed as the first public school. This public school showed how everyone has an opportunity to receive the education they need. This education will allow them to achieve the American dream of being successful in their career of choice and having a more stable life. -
The Revolutionary War Begins
The start of the revolutionary war showed how people were willing to fight in order to have the ability to create their own lifestyle and go as far in life as they could rather than being controlled by a tyrannical government. This lifestyle is what became known as the American Dream of being free and having the opportunity to make something of yourself through hard work and not being held back by the government. -
Bill of Rights Becomes Law
This event established the freedoms required for the American dream to be reached by the average citizen. Without these rights someone might be held back and unable to create a good, stable life for themselves. -
The Underground Railroad Begins
This shows how slaves are willing to fight to have everyone be equal which is part of the American dream, that everyone has an equal chance to make something of themselves and not start from a disadvantage. This also shows how willing these people were to fight for the cause of a better life by risking their lives to help others get out of slavery -
Great Potato Famine in Ireland
The potato famine in Ireland caused a lot of people to immigrate to the U.S. seeking a better life. Those people to were trying to reach the American dream of being able to live a comfortable and stable life. -
First Gold Rush Begins
The Gold Rush allowed people to earn their fortune and have the opportunity to reach the American dream of gaining riches and fortune through hard work. -
First Hospital for Women is Established
The first hospital for women was established for women. This was a part of the American dream for all people being equal by women getting correct medical care like men. This also shows how women deserve a comfortable and stable lifestyle which includes proper healthcare for them to be safe. -
Congress Ratifies the 13th Amendment
This amendment prohibits slavery which allows Africans Americans a better opportunity to create a better life for them. While slaves still struggled after being freed, they were given a better opportunity to build a successful life but weren't necessarily the safest after being freed. -
First Antiseptic Surgery Performed
This showed how the American dream wanted to be safe and that includes being safe from diseases. One way for those diseases to be prevented precautions need to be taken to keep things clean and antiseptic surgery is one way to do that. -
Reconstruction Begins Under Andrew Johnson
The plan for the north to be brought back into the north after the civil war is put into place. This was meant to help free slaves and give them a better life. However, the white man still had power and put many restrictions on African americans. -
The Transcontinental Railroad is Completed
The railroad being completed allowed for easier and more efficient travel and shipping. The railroad also caused more people to migrate west because they could get there easier and also get supplies fairly easily. The railroad also allowed for easier and faster communication across the country. -
Congress Ratifies the 15th Amendment
This amendment gave African Americans the right to vote. However, steps were put in place by whites to keep blacks from voting. one example of this is the tests required to vote. This shows how even though blacks were given some rights, they were usually canceled out by things the white man put in place. -
Telephone is invented
Alexander Graham Bell invents the telephone. This allows for a simple form of long-distance communication and a faster way for information to be spread throughout the country. -
Standard Oil is Forced to Disband
Standard oil is declared a monopoly and Rockefeller is forced to dissolve the corporation. This was the beginning of the end for monopolies as steps were being put into place to prevent them. Monopolies being taken away allowed for a fairer market for producers and consumers. -
Ford's Model T Dominates the Market
The model T is one of the first affordable vehicles for the middle-class man. The car is cheaper to make because of how effective the assembly line is, which then allows for a lower price. The car becomes wildly popular because of how affordable it is -
The US Enters WWI
The U.S. enters world war one. The US enters the war towards the end of the war because while the U.S. are secretly helping the British the Germans bomb a ship called the Lusitania and kill a bunch of Americans. This angers the U.S. and causes them to declare war on the Germans. -
Eighteenth Amendment Put in Place
The 18th amendment was a result of the prohibition movement to end alcohol use in the US. This ends up causing more bad than good in the end. Many illegal things become normal like gangs and mobs, speakeasies, and police and political leaders being paid off and bribed constantly. -
Scopes Monkey Trial
This trial was about a teacher from Tennessee who was arrested for teaching evolution. This is the first time modern ideas such as evolution are taught in the classroom. Started the process that got schools how they are today. -

The stock market plunged dramatically and led to the Great Depression. During this time inflation was terrible and many people lost everything due to the terrible market. -

The US dropped two atomic bombs on Japan. Japan surrender and World War II is officially over. -

Harry Truman sends troops to Vietnam to assist the French in fighting communism. -

The Soviet Union send nuclear missiles to Cuba. Cuba is a communist ally. The tension between the US and Cuba causes the Cuban missile crisis. -
March on Washington
Martin Luther King Jr. organizes March on Washington and delivers the famous I Have a Dream speech. -
JFK Assasinated
John F Kennedy is assasinated and Lyndon B Johnson takes office as president. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is put in place in order to outlaw discrimination. -
MLK Assasinated
Martin Luther King Jr. is assasinated outside his motel room in Memphis Tennessee. This results in massive riots across the country showing how influential MLK was. -
Moon Walk
Neil Armstrong becomes the first human to ever walk on the moon. He stated the famous quote “one small step for man, and one giant leap for mankind.
