Molasses Act
Taxation on Molasses and sugar imported into the Massachusetts Colony with collection of the funds by England, not the colony. This began the over-bearing economic rains held by England. -

The Reverend Jonathan Mayhew voiced the opinion that most colonist had, that economic control by England was out of control. -
Stamp Act
An Act that was put into place after the Molasses Act proved to be ineffective. The Stamp Act would tax a wider range of goods used by the colonist. There were legal consequences to violating these rules. -
Boston Tea Party
Sons of Liberty raided 3 shipping vessels in the Boston harbor in one of the first public acts of defiance against English economic rule. 90,000 lbs of Tea was thrown overboard at a great financial impact to England. -
Shay's Rebellion
A group of armed men, mostly farmers, that were burdened with large amounts of debt and taxes to their name. The fear and anger of imprisonment, loss of property, and continuation of unfair practices led the rebellions to overthrow the government. -
War of 1812
Massachusetts was one of a few colonies that were permitted to cross the lines for exporting and importing needs for a period of time. Massachusetts did not suffer as great an economic hardship as other colonies, never the less it still evolved to a more land based economy such as textiles.
