People were seeking valuable furs from abundant beaver. The men who hunted these beavers were called Mountain Men. The men were pressed westward towards the Great Salt Lake. -
Americans Migrate to Texas
Mexico allowed Americans to settle in Texas but they had a few rules. They had to agree to become Mexican citizens, worship Roman Catholics, and accept the Mexican consititution. Mexico did this to make Americans an economic asset and not threat. -
Alamo
Texans rebelled againist Mexican rule. In crush the rebellion Santa Anna sent an army which they attacked the small Texan garrison. The Alamo was a fortified mission in San Antonio. -
Oregon Trail
It was a trail from MIssouri to Oregon used by poineers. Emigrant farmers traveling to the Willamette Valley for fertile land. The family and personal items would be packaged in a covered wagon. -
California Seeks Statehood
California wanted to be a state and enter the union. This cause conflict with the North and the South because the union had 15 free states and 15 slave states. This led to the Civil War over slavery.
