  • Queen Elizabeth I started the "East India company"

    In the 1600's, Queen Elizabeth I started the East India company to help trade between India and Britain. However, British English and Indian English were not that alike. Some words in British English didn't have the same meaning in Indian English and vice-versa. This sometimes led to communication issues but for the most part wasn't that big of a problem.
  • Englishmen arrived in the Caribbean

    In the 1620's, Englishmen arrived in the Caribbean with settlers. A new language called "Creole" was used as a simplified version of English by the new people there. Creole was also used to communicate on-board ships loaded with slaves taken from Africa.
  • The First Fleet arrived in Australia

    In 1788, the First Fleet arrived in Port Jackson. The First Fleet was a fleet consisting of 11 ships. The crew of the ships consisted of about 780 men and women. Most of these people however, were criminals and had been deported to Australia as punishment.
