Although when his decision in marrying again was announced and without permission of the Pope I chose to retire.

    Controversies

May 7th, 1535 I was placed in court for trial once again for failing in accepting the oath (treason) and was said to face death as a common criminal. During this trial I was given the opportunity to agree on the oath, however I freely disagreed once again. When the trial came to a closed I was given perjury that was able to sentence conviction, which came to the decision that I was guilty. This meant I would be executed as a punishment for not approving King Henry’s oath.

Family Life-1In the year 1505, I went from being Thomas More a 27 year old, into the husband of a younger women aged 17 named Jane Colt. Throughout our married life Jane gave birth to four wonderful children, that I’m proud to call mine. It was unfortunate to have unexpectedly lost her during our sixth year of marriage (1511); however I had to place my feelings aside and consider my children’s desires.

Family Life-2Soon after Jane’s passing, I found a widow some years older than me who in a matter of months, I was able to label as my second wife and the mother of my children. All through the raising of my four children Margaret, Elizabeth, Cecily and John, I was determined to provide them with a personal and loving care, but also with chosen teachers and tutors. They were highly educated, which was shown through their advance knowledge in Latin, Greek, Logic, Mathematics, Theology and Astronomy.

    Controversies

Once I declined the invitation to King Henry VIII second marriage, you can consider me a marked man. I was summoned to court on the assumption that I accepted bribery during my time as Lord Chancellor, but the trial was then postponed. King Henry VIII enacted a law in 1534 stating he was supreme ruler of the world and to accept this you must say an oath which I freely disagreed on accepting. That then lead me into London Tower (prison) for 1 year.
