  • Understanding Aristotle

    While studying, Kuhn realized he couldn't understand Aristotle's ideas because of his education. He had been studying Aristotle from the perspective of later ideas. When he realized this he began to take into account the science and philosophy of the Ancient Greeks. This is when Aristotle’s physics began to make more sense.   • First Publishing

    Kuhn's first published work, The Copernican Revolution, brought a new perspective in the philosophical and historical communities. His reconstruction of the revolution was considered scientifically accurate. Critics considered integration of the science and the social an advance over other histories that ignored these dimensions of the historical narrative.

  • Incommensurability

    Though the word was not new only used in math, Kuhn, in his book, used incommensurable to describe paradigms that represent different world views on a single subject, bringing it into another field. An example of incommensurability is the differences between the ideas of Aristotle and Newton, which differ so drastically that there is little common ground between them. "Thomas Kuhn."     The Structure of Scientific Revolutions was published
    The idea behind this book is that the development of science is guided by a paradigm. The paradigm would supply problems and solutions, but a crisis arises when the ability of the paradigm to solve anomalies fades.
