Named President when McKinley was assassinated

Devil’s Tower, Wyoming, named first national monument
Native American legend has it that Devils Tower was created when 6 Sioux girls were picking flowers and a bear began to chase them. The Great Spirit then lifted the land beneath the girls to get them away from the bear. Runs for presidency, unsuccessfully for Bull-Moose Party
Roosevelt was nominated by the Bull-Moose party for his 3rd term as president. Before his speech he was shot, but he proceeded to give his speech. He later collapsed and lost the presidency to a Democrat, but survived.
