Embarking on the hot hike
Last summer my family and I went on a hike when visiting the Grand Canyon. The quote "the sun made the pine needles almost too bright to look up at" can relate to me hiking the Grand Canyon in hot summer weather. -
Reaching the Peak
The quote "the path ran up a hill" is similar to when my family and I reached a large peak in the Grand Canyon. We had to scale up the peak in order to continue on with the perilous hike. -
Getting stuck
Just as Phoenix mentioned how her dress got caught in the thorns by stating, "'thorns, you doing your appointed work'", I fell and scraped my knee on a sharp rock while hiking. -
No Snakes in Sight
Phoenix mentions how lucky we are that "'the good Lord made his snakes to curl up and sleep in the winter'", this fact about snakes relates to my story because rattle snakes are common in the Grand Canyon, and I didnt see any on my hike either. -
Finding My Way
Phoenix describes traveling "through the maze now" when she got to the part with no path in the forest. This is like my journey because the entire time I was hiking, I didnt know how much longer the hike would last, nor did I really know where I was going. -
Leap of Faith
Phoenix comes upon the scarecrow, thinking at first it is a ghost, and says "'Dance, old scarecrow while I dancing with you.'" When we were hiking we reached this narrow dried up creek that we had to jump over, although at first I was scared, I danced my way over to the other side. -
Building Endurance
It was explained how "a black dog with a lolling tongue came up... when he came at her she only hit him a little with her cane", this particular scene relates to my story because I had to push away my physically tired state to get through the 4 hour hike. Though I was tired, I pushed through it and made it to the end.
