  • 1766 BCE

    The Shang Dynasty

    Ruled in the Yellow River Valley in the second millennium BC, succeeding the Xia dynasty and and followed by the Zhou dynasty. (Sometimes referred to as the Yin dynasty). This dynasty was ruled for about 58 years.
  • 1600 BCE

    The Xia Dynasty

    The first chinese dynasty that lasted about 500 years. Yu the great was the one to set up the dynasty. This dynasty lasted until the Shang dynasty took control. People now, debate weather or not the Xia dynasty really existed or is just a chinese legend.
  • 770 BCE

    The Zhou Dynasty

    This dynasty was the longest one in chinese history. It lasted for over 800 years and included the regions of 37 emperors.Zhou dynasty was divided into the western and eastern Zhou.
  • 551 BCE

    Confucius/Confucianism

    A chinese teacher, editor, politician, etc. Of the spring and autumn period of chinese history.
  • 475 BCE

    Legalism

    School of chinese philosophy that attained prominence during the warring states. Legalism was one of the four main philosophies in chinese history. It was introduced by Qin Shi Huang.
  • 100 BCE

    Buddhism

    Wheel of time/history. A concept of many religious traditions, which regard time as a cyclical and consisting of ages. 4 noble truths of buddhism- 1) existence is suffering 2) The cause of suffering is craving and attachment 3) Suffering ceases at some point and turns to Nirvana 4) There is a path to Nirvana which is made up of eight steps, sometimes called the Eightfold path.

    Daoism (Taoism)

    A philosophical and religious tradition that developed in China during ancient times. Ideas created by a man named Laozi.
