The Child evacuation was when children were sent away to live in the countryside to be safe. This was because they wanted to prevent their children from getting bombed by the Germans. Children went places as far as America, Canada, and Australia. After the war kids returned home, May of 1945. -

Miss Smith takes Ada to the doctor took look at her foot. She finds out she was born with something called clubfoot. They can have an operation o fix her foot. In the book, Miss Smith writes Ada's mom about the operation but never gets a response. -
Cruches (Book)
When Ada lived with Miss Smith they went to the doctor to look at Ada's club foot, that she was born with. The doctor recommended she should use crutches to make walking less painful. -
Left Handed (Book)
Miss Smith found out the teacher had tied Jamie up to the chair every day because he was writing with his left hand. From then on he was homeschooled by Miss Smith. -
Pearl Harbor (History)
Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, HI. The Japanese and America were close to starting a war and the Japanese wanted to bomb America so they couldn’t fight back. Over 2,000 American lives were lost and over 1,000 were injured. -

Mam came to get Ada and Jamie back. They lived in a new house closer to the factory Mam now worked at. Mam was crueler than ever, she very means to Ada and took her crutches away. The only reason she took them back was that they charged 19 shillings every week. Ada asked Mam if she even wanted her and Jamie and she said no. The next day Ada and Jamie set off, but then a bomb went off. They got to the closest shelter. When they got out they found Miss Smith looking them. -
D-Day (History)
D-day took place when allied forces launched an attack on German Forces. The battle was from June 1944 to August 1944. Over 150,000 troops from U.S., Canada, and other British forces. -

Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889, and later died by committing suicide on April 30, 1945. He was the leader of Germany, from 1933 till 1945. Hitler is considered the most responsible for the holocaust. -
