Declaration of WarThe Americans declared war on the British becuase the British refused to stop capturing American ships and their passengers. So war started. But, President James Madison failded to tell General Hull (British) that the war has started. The messages were actually lost in the mail. The British didn't know until July 5th 1812. Tecumseh ( great Indian leader) and his Indian army decided to join forces with the British becuase the Americans were poor and broken promises in the past. -
The Battle of Detroit
The Battle of DetroitOn June 18 1812, the Americans declared war on the British. In Fort Detroit, the British had 300 of the regular army, 400 militia men and Tecumseh's 600 Indian warriors. The Americans had 2500 men in total and they were both ready to fight. But, the Americans were terrified of the Nativies. So, General Hull went to go get back up, but General Isaac Brock surrounded them before he could do so. The Americans, fearing the natives, surrendered without a fight. Therefore, British won the battle. -

The Battle of Queenston HeightsThe Americans attempted to invade Upper Canada in Queenston Heights. The Americans had to cross a river with about 25-80 men on each boat. They headed down stream and headed right into the British. There were muskets firing, cannons shooting and there were dead men everywhere. A troop of Americans escaped and went through a fishermans path and saw General Isaac Brock. A person took a musket and shot him right in the chest and he died instantly. But, the British still won the battle. -

Sir Isaac Brock And His DeathSir Isaac Brock was born Oct. 6 1769 and died Oct. 13 1812 during the battle of Queenston Heights. He was a Birtish Army Officer and administrator. He was then promoted to Major General and became responsible for defending Upper Canada. Brock's actions, particularly his success for the capture of Fort Detroit, earned him a knight hood and the nickname, "The Hero Of Upper Canada." He died from a musket that shot him right in the chest and he died almost instantly. -

Laura Secord's StoryLaura Secord is a heroine. On June 21, Laura heard plans of the Americans that were going to invade the British. Her husband, James Secord, was injured from the battle of Queesnton Heights. So, she wanted to go tell her commander James FitzGibbon about the plans. She walked 20 miles (32 km) from Queenston through St. Davids. When she got to FitzGibbon's camp, she told him the plans of the Americans, and they got ready to fight. She spoiled the surprise and now is a hero. -

The Battle of Lake ErieOn Sept. 10 1813, the Americans deafeated the British and Lake Erie became and American lake. The Americans, led by Commander Oliver Hazard Perry, was ready in small force of warships to fight. The British, led by General Isaac Brock, had bigger ships, but the Americans had more of them. They immediately seized the British and the Americans won. Lake Erie has now become an American lake. 41 died for the British and 27 for the Americans. -

The Battle of The Thames RiverAt Moraviantown, Ontario, American troops defeated a combination of British and Native warriors that were coming back from the last battle, the battle of Lake Erie. The Americans were set up in small ships waiting for the British to come. They were fighting with muskets, daggers, cannons, and hand in hand combat. Tecumseh wasa also fighting in this battle. He was the chief for the Natives-British becuase General Isaac Brock died. He died while fighting an American. -

Tecumseh And His DeathTecumseh was born on March 1768 and died October 5 1813. He was a Native leader. He soon became a powerful ally to the Brtiish and became leader for the British when General Isaac Brock died. He helped capture Fort Detroit and fought in the battle of The Thames. In Shawnee, Tecumseh means "Shooting Star" and "Panther Across the Sky." Tecumseh died during the battle of the Thames.Just like his tribe and the British, he was fighting an American and got killed. -

The Battle of The ChateauguayThe Battle of Chateauguay was fought October 26 1813. The British was lead by Charles-Michel de Salaberry. The Americans were lead by Major General Wade Hampton. Charles de Salaberry used the Chateauguay river to direct a path follwed by the Americans. He also went by an open field that had cut trees that were sharpened for an obstacle for the Americans. That way, it would slow them down and help the British win the battle. And British did win the battle. -

The Americans were lead by Major General Jacob Brown. Fort Erie was the first objective that stood in the Americans way, so it had to be captured. When Major Thomas Buck and his tribe got to Fort Erie, they only shot a few times and decided to surrender. The Americans won this battle. -

It was fought between the Americans and the British. It was fought right in the middle of Lundy Lane's Road. The Americans and the British both moved forward to Lundy's Lane. each side hurled desperate charges against the other in the dusk and darkness. Both troops wer so exhausted and so the Americans handed over the field. So, British had won this battle. -
End of The War

According to the treaty, all conquered territory was to be returned, and commissions were planned to settle the boundary of the United States and Canada. News of the treaty took almost two months to cross the Atlantic, and British forces were not informed of the end of hostilities. That was the end of the War of 1812 and there were no more battles.
