  • Perry captures British fleet

    Nine vessels of the United States Navy defeated and captured six vessels of British Royal Navy. The British took Adams when Detroit was surrendered, renaming her Detroit.
  • Battle of Thames river

    British troops under Major General Henry Procter had occupied Detroit until the U.S. Navy gained control of Lake Erie. Procter was forced to retreat north up the river Thames to Moraviantown, where his allies, Shawnee leader Tecumseh, had no choice but to follow them.
