Warhawks Take Power
President Madison did not want war, other AMericans were not as cautious. Warhawks were members of congress from the South and West. Warhawks had a strong sense of nationalism. Warhawks felt little Britain was treating the U.S like it was still a British colony. -

American people assumed Canada could be easily overrun. The desire of many in the U.S to end British occupation of Canada. Even before the war began Warhawks were wanting invasion. -
USS Constitution Scaes a Victory
Known as the " Old Fronsides" beause British Cannon balls often bounced her thicken wooden hull. In 1905 the ship was docked in Boston and Oppeved to the public. The ship underwent major restoratation. You can still see the ship today. -
Battle of Lake Erie
Battle of Lake Erie took place on the coast of Ohio during the War of 1812. 9 vessels of the United States navy defeated and captured 6 vessels of British royal navy. This ensured American control of the lake for the rest of the war. It was one of the biggest Naval battles of the War of 1812. -

Battle of Thames was a decisive U.S victory in the War of 1812 against Great Britain. It took place in Chatham, Ontario in upper Canada. This led to the death of the Shawhee cheif Tecumshe and the destruction of the Native American coaition that he led. -

Writing of the Star SPangled banner
On the back of an old envelope Francis Scott Key wrote a poem called the "Star Spangled Banner." It told the stories of his night watch. The poem became popular and was set to music. in 1931 congress made it the Nstional Anthem of the United States. -
