    General William Hull surrendered without a fight after seeing the large British and Indian force. Most of his men were militiamen and they were allowed to return home. Regular troops were taken prisoner, and Fort Detroit now rested in British hands

    The Battle of Lake Erie resulted in the first defeat of the British Navy in history. The British had 40 dead and 94 wounded. It also ensured US control over Lake Erie.
  • Battle of North Point

    The British Force landed at North Point, Maryland, with the intention of taking Baltimore. General John Stricker was ordered to delay the British advance. Stricker was successful, even after 2 hours of artillery and rocket fire. The British army withdrew, surprised at the stubborn defense.

    The British attempted to bombard Fort McHenry on September 13th, 1814. However, the fort stood tall through the night, inspiring Francis Scott Key to write the “Star Spangled Banner”.

    This final battle of the War of 1812 actually took place after the Treaty of Ghent was signed. However, word spread slowly and this turned out to be the most incredible defeat and embarrassment of the British. General Andrew Jackson led 4,500 men into battle against 8,000 British soldiers. The British ended up losing 2,000 men while the Americans only lost 70.
