Americans were furious at britain for arming Native Americans in the Northwest. Madison supervied the Louisiana Purchase,which doubled the nation's size. As president(1809-1817), after the faliure of a diplomatic protest and a trade embargo against Great Britain, he led the nation to the War of 1812. -

War Hawks Take Power
Clay, Calhoun, and their supporters were called war hawks. War hawks were people who were eager for war with Britain. Many New Englanders believed wat with Britain would hurt American a lot. -
Relations with Great Britain Worsen
The war did not come at a good time for the British. Some were still at war in Europe. Even though it was a bad time for Britain, they refused to meet Americans to avoid their demands and to avoid war. -

Jefferson's spending cuts had weakened American military strength. The navy had only 16 warships ready for war. The army's were so small, with less than 7,000 men. -

Before the war began, war hawks were demanding invasion of Canada. War hawks expected Canadians to welcome the chance to push Britain's power. In July, American troops General William Hull invaded Canada from Detroit. Hull was afraid of not having enough soldiers so he retreated and General Issac Brock took control. -

Battle of Plattsburgh
The Battle of Plattsburgh ended the invasion of the northern states during the War of 1812. A British army converged the lakeside town of Plattsburgh, which American eventually defeated. The battle toook place shortly before the signig of the Treaty of Ghent, The general Downie was killed during this battle and then resulted in the win of America. -
Second Battle of Sacket's Harbor
Battle of Sacket's Harbor took place on May 29th 1813, during the
War of 1812. A British force was transported across Lake Ontario and attempted to capture town. George Prevost, Jacob Brown, James Lucas Yeo and Woolcott Cahncey were all commanders and leaders of the Second Battle of Sacket's Harbor. -
Battle of Lake Erie
The Battle of Laker Erie was fought on Lake Erie, right off the coast of Ohio. The United States defeated Great Britain. 68 were killed, 189 wounded, and 1 brig damaged. When the war broke out Britain seized Lake Eire. On the Morning of September, 10th the first shot was fired at 11:45 A.M. -
Battle of Thames
The Battle of Thames took place on October 5th,1813, The war took place near Ontario, Canada. It resulted in the death of Tecumseh. 5,060 soldiers fought during this battle. 78 were killed, and 92 wounded. 760 Natives were used to help both sides to finish the Battle of Thames. -
Battle of Horseshoe Bend
The Battle of Horseshoe Bend was fought in the city of Alabama in Georgia. On March 27th, at 10:30 A.M. Andrew Jackson began the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, firing two cannon's for two hours. Jackson ordered a charge at Red Sticks. The infantry was led by colonel John Williams. 927 people were killed and 232 were wounded which ended the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. -

The Battle of Fort Oswego was a partially successful British raid. While Fort Oswego was frozen, the British and American naval squadrons had been building multiple frigates each. James Lucas Yeo, George Mitchell, and Karl Viktor Fischer were all Commanders and leaders of the Battle of Fort Oswego. -

On August 24th, 1814, Washington, D.C. was attacked by Birtish soldiers. The British soldiers caused a lot of damage. The soldiers burned many public buildings such as the White House and the U.S Capitol. The soldiers burned the presidents house and added fuel to the fire later that night to keep the fire going until it was gone. -

The attack on Baltimore is also known as the Battle of Baltimore. The Battle of Baltimore was a sea/land battle fought between Britain and America. It was a turning point of the war. The war was in multiple places such as North Point and Fort McHenry. On the morning of September 14, the America flag was flown over Fort McHenry in honor of the battle. -

It is a song, sung at special events such as hockey games, It was made and sung after the American flag was raised on September 14th, 1814. -

The Hartford Convention was a event in which New England federealist met in the United States in order to discuss their grievences. The also discussed the political problems arising. The convention was approached about removing the Three-Fifths composite also. -

The Treaty of Ghent was signed on December 24, 1814. The Treaty of Ghent stated that the War of 1812 was officially over. It took well over weeks so get to the United States because of the era's slow communications. Which led to the final battle, the Battle of New Orleans. -
