    On June 4, 1812 after a secret debate, the House of Representatives approved the declaration of war on a vote of 79 to 49.

    In early December of 1814 Andrew Jackson started assembling his defencesnfrom Kentucky, Tennessee, and Louisiana. Also some African Americans joined for free. On Janruary 1, 1815 Jacksons troops held off a British assalt held by under Sir Edward Pakenham. In one weeks time Pakenham returned with a secondary assalt of 6,000 men. In the end the British suffered 2,000 casualties when Jacksons forces only had 21 deaths.
