    When he took office, tension with Britian was very high. He was hopeing to keep the U.S. out of war. He was known as a quiet, and scholary man. The Americans thought that his presedency was to meak. These people said that the U.S. must stand up to Native Americans and also forein countries.

    War Halks wanted war with Britian because they wanted to seize Canada, and to take Florida from Spain, which were Britain's ally. Also to stop British seizure of American ships, and to demonstrate the strength of the U.S. Lastly they wanted to end British aid to western Native Americans.

    The American ports were surrounded by 135 British warships. By the end of the war British were able to close off all of the American ports. They had to reinforce their troops. The Americans lost to the British. This all happended in the beginning of the war.

    The USS Constintution's victory was when they defeated Guerriere, a British warship. The constintution was nick-named "Old Iron Sides". This name was given because British artillery fire bounced off the ships thick wooden hull. The Americans thought the constintution was like made of iron. This whole battle was a major sea battle.

    The captain, Oliver Perry, designed and built his own ships. The British moved from Detroit into Canada. The British beat up Perry's ship and left it helpless. Perry's had a very small fleet. He wrote his message, which was; "We have met the enemy and they took ours", on the back of an envolope.

    The Hardford Convection took place in Hardford, Conneticut. this quickly ended after the war ended. Some delegates to this suggested that the US gets wihtdrawled from New England states. The news of peace tready arrived. this was all set up by a group of federalists.

    John Adams summed up the treaty with the follwing sentance; "Nothing was adjusted, nothing was settled". this whole thing had nothing to do with impressment or neutrality. Some Americans thought this treaty was a mistake. The other Americans argued that the young republic would get more respect from Europe. This treaty was signed in the city of Ghent, Belgium.

    Repeatively, the British soldiers marched torward the American Trenches. At this time Andrew Jackson was a national hero. The Americans beat British in the war. Around 2,000 men helped build fortifications for Philadalphia. The war ended when Britian and the U.S. signed a treaty in Europe.
