Madison took office and Americans got madat Britian because they gave the Native Americans weapons. When Madison got in the office the impressment of the sailors kept going on. -

Relations with Great Britian Worsen
This started worsening in the months of 1812. In the spring British told the U.S. they would continue impressing the sailors.Americans in the Northwest attacked on frontier settlements. Then Congress declared war on Britian. -
Congress Declares War on Britian
When the war came the British were still in war with Europe. They were not willing to meet Americans demands to avoid the war. When the U.S. was ready to fight they were confident they would win. -
America is not Ready for War
Jeffersons spending cuts had weakend the American Miitary therefore they were not ready or prepared. They had less than 7,000 men. -

The first day of war the British set up a blockade for the American cost.A blockade is the action of shutting a port or road to prevent people or supplies from coming into an area or leaving it. -

Before the war began the War hawks wanted to invade on canada. They were expecting Canadians to welcome the chance to trhrow off the british rule.Then the American troops invades Canada and Detroit. -
USS Constitution scores a victory
There was a major sea battle the beggining of The War of 1812.Then USS Constitution defeated the British warship in a fierce battle. This sea battle went on for about 2 hours. -
Battle of Lake Erie
American forces had good luck on lake erie. Both of the sides new they had to control the importance of lake erie. This battle was about a three hour key to it. -
Battle of Thames
The Battle of Thames was after the Battle of Lake Erie. Tecumceh was killed in the Battle of Thames. The Americans followed the British into Canada under General William Henry Harrison. -
Battle of Horseshoe Bend
Jackson defeated the Creeks at the Battle of the Horseshoe Bend. The treaty that ended the fighting forced the Creeks to give up millions of aceres of land.The Creek warriors attacked several southern American settlements before this. -
Washington, D.C Attacked and Burned
Dolly Madison gathered up all the important papers and fled. Then the british set fire on the White House. They were surpised that the American army could not defend it. -
Attack on Baltimore
The first place the British were going to attack was the Fort of Mchenery which defended the citys harbor. The Britishes warships bomareded the fort at night. Francis Scott Key watched the war and the American flag was still in the air the americans had defended the fort. -
The Writing of the Star Spangled Banner
On the back of an envelope Key wrote a peom and he called it The Star Spangled Banner. It told the story of hiim watching the war at the fort. Then congress made it the National Anthom of the U.S. -
Hartford Convention
They said that the New England States better secede or withdraw from the U.S. While the Delagates Debated the piece Treaty arrived. With the war over the Hartford Convention quickely ended. -
Treaty of Ghent
Britian was tired of war. Then peace talks began in Ghent Belgum. On Christmas Eve the sides signed the Treaty of Ghent. and that ended the war. -
Battle of New Orleans
The treaty took time to get to the U.S. so the two sides fought one more time before the treaty got there. General Andrew Jackson won a big war over the British at the Battle of New Orleans.
