President Madison takes office
Tension with Britain rised when James Madison took Presidential office for America. Americans were angry when British started giving Native Americans guns. British kept impressing sailors.
In June congresses declared War on Britain. -
War Hawks Take Power
In 1810 two nationalist, Henry Clay and John J. Calhoun became leaders of the House of Representatives. Henry Clay and John J. Calhoun and their supporters were called War Hawks.They were eager for war with Britain. They beleived the Americans were going to win the war with Britain. -
Relationships with Great Britain Worsen
In 1812 the British told the United States of America that they would keep impressing sailors. In June, Congress declared war on Britain. A sea battle was fought at the beginning of the war. In Agust 1812 the U.S. Constitustion defeated the British warship in a feirce battle. -
America is not Ready for War
United States had a small army for war . They only had 7,000 men.They had 16 warships ready for battle. Jefferson did not have enough money for the war. -
Britain Blockades American Ports
The USS Constitution defeated the british warships in a battle. It was a big win because the captain died in that battle. The British did not win the battle. -
Invasion of Canada
War Hawks demanded an invasion on Canada. So they attacked from Detriot into Canada. It failed because Hull was unsure of the attack so they attacked Hull and they soon retreated. -
Congress Declares War on Great Britain
The war became official when Congress declared war on Great Britain. Then The War Hawks took over as commander. They started to recruit more soldiers for the war. The had confident that they would win. -
USS Constitution scores a victory
It was a three hour battle on Lake Erie. The American Flag was badly damaged. But soon British retreated and the Americans won the lake. -
First Battle of Sackets Harbor
First shots were fired at British to start of the war.It was a brutal battle.The Americans started recuiting militias to help them fight. It was a tough battle for both and soon Americans came to victory. -
Battle of Lake Erie
The British ambushed the United States and they had to got to Put-in-bay. They fired cannons and took down one of the British warships.
The U.S. had to start bringing in ships to start holding them off. The British soon surrendered since they could not handel all of the Americans so the result is the Americans one the battle of Lake Erie. -
Battle of Thames
The British planned to trap Harrison on the bank of Thames taking Americans off road with cannon fire. The Americans saw them coming so Harrison orderd some of them to make a frontal attack at the British. James Johnson helped and brought his men to help kill the British. 15 of his men were killed or wounded. He was hit 5 times. Americans won the battle after they attacked the rest of the crew. -
Battle of Horseshoe Bend
On March 27 Jackson and his men started to attack the British. He orderd his men to do a bayonet charge. The battle went on for about five hours. Him and his men killed all of the Red Sticks trying to flee and fight. The Americans have won another battle. -
Battle of Fort Oswego
On May 6 the British charged the northwest rampart of the fort. It was a struggle to stop the British from lowering the American Flag. Eventualy one tof the british captains captured the flag and lowered it. 60 men were captured and 27 died. The British won the battle. -
Washington, D.C. Attacked & Burned
British started to invade Washington D.C. and British caught America off gaurd. Americans started retreating for weapons. Americans were soon outnumberd. Then the British captured Washington D.C. They went back to guard capitol hill. -
Battle of Plattsburgh
America ambushed the British and forced them to retreat for weapons. Americans outnumbered British. They kept pursuing all of the British were killed except for the officers. They buried all of the British on Crab Island. -
Attacked on Baltimore & the Writing of the Star Spangled Banner
The British started attacking Americans in Baltimore. THey started sending troops straight at them. British started to withdraw. America won the battle. -
Hartford Convention
This started sorting out what Americans would use to win. They started recuiting more soldiers. This is where plans started. -
Treaty of Ghent
On December British and Americans started making an agreement. So they could stop the war. They finally came to agreement. Then they had it ratified by the government. And ended the war of 1812 -
Battle of New Orleans
British attacked Louisana in a huge fleet. The started atacking the whole city. They were succesful with two assults but soon started withdrawing as soon as Americans killed more and more of them. The Battle of 1812 was officaily over the Americans won.
