The Lindisfarne Raid
The Vikings launched an attack on the holy island of Lindisfarne. They assaulted and murdered priests and took the survivors as slaves. They also destroyed and took valuables from the church. This was the beginning of the Viking raids in Europe. -

The Viking Age
The Vikings are people that originated in Scandinavia and then spreadout out through Europe. They are known for being barbaric warriors that would raid and pillage villages and kingdoms during the Middle Ages. Vikings were incredibly skilled seamen who traveled the world conquering, trading, settling, and much more. Although the Vikings don't have the best reputation in history, a lot of what they did impacted the world and history, therefore gaining them a solid presence in this era. -

The arrival of the Viking Army in England
It was a conjoined effort by the northern people of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. They're purpose in England was to pillage kingdoms and find new land. The Army was led by the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok. Monasteries were attacked and vast amounts of lands were captured. Almost all of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms in England were taken over, only Wessex remained. -

The Major Viking Occupation of England
At this time in England the Vikings were in control of a large amount of land in England. They conquered lands such as Northumbria, East Anglia, Mercia, and other smaller and bay villages. In one of these attacks they were able to attack and occupy York fairly easily, this is because they planned to do this on a holiday and the people of York were distracted. -

The Attack on Wessux and King Alfred
In January a section of the Viking Army managed to breach into Wessex and catch the Royal Army and King Alfred off guard. They (Alfred and some of his Army) were barely able to escape but somehow did. For a while after this it seemed like the independence of Wessex, despite the circumstances Alfred gathered a new Army and defeated the Vikings and pushed them out. -

The Siege of Paris
The siege of Paris was an Invasion led by Reginherus and a Viking Army. The Vikings attacked with a fleet of 120 long ships and thousands of warriors. The French didn't have the support to defeat the vikings and ultimately failed. They ravaged and took control of the city, however this wouldn't last long once they had taken the valuables. The French King had also suggested a peace agreement with the vikings. -

The Raids of the Mediterranean
The Vikings were committing a series of attacks along the Mediterranean, this was led by the Swedish Viking Olef the Wise. Who would then go on to lead an attack on Constantinople, when the word got out he was offered a generous amount of money in the hopes he would abort this attack. Olef would end up Turing around. -

The Founding of Normandy in France
The Viking chief Rollo was granted land by the Franks because he unoccupied Paris after they once sieged it. The people around and the family of Rollo would go on to adopt the local languages and become known as the Normans. -

The Attack on Constantinople
The Rus Vikings and their partners were able to take advantage of the Byzantines vastly spread out army. The capital had basically no security. It is said that The Rus violently murdered their victims, this is only one of many wars between these two sides. -

The Discovery of Greenland
Erik the Red who was kicked out of Norway and then Iceland, would find his way towards Greenland. He had about 25 ships with people, goods, and more. After about 20 or so years it is believed to have inhabited more than 3,000 vikings who were living in Greenland as farmers. -

The Discovery of North America
Approximately half a millennia before the birth of Columbus the Vikings had set foot in North America. The Vikings were always in search of new land for it's people to occupy. This particular group was being led by Leif Erikson when they ventured into the Atlantic waters and came across some unrecognized land. The Vikings docked their ships and proceeded to go ashore, this was the first time a European stepped foot in North America. -

The North American settlement is Abandoned
The vikings built a small settlement that was called "Vinland" and had abandoned it. This was most likely because of a scarce amount of resources and supplies, and that it was a long way back to Scandinavia. -

The Final Battles in England
During this time the King of Normandy and the Saxon King were both killed along with most of their armies. Normandy's Harald Hardara was killed by Harold Godwinson's forces in the battle of Stamford Bridge, most of his army died as well. During this year there is also a Battle of Hastings where the Saxon King Harold is defeated.
