Jan - Feb of 1957 Martin Luther King jr. and two others established the SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference) which became a major part in organizing the civil rights movement. -

Freedom rides
The first freedom ride was on May 4 1961. The freedom rides took place to test the bus riding segregation laws in southern states. -

Martin Luther King jr. was assassinated on April 4th 1968. He was looking out on the balcony of his room at the Lorranie Motel, when he was shot by James Earl Ray.
