He sailed on April 10, 1912 in the port of Southampton in England on his way to New York. He had on board about 2225. -
The sinking
The Titanic sank on the early night of April 14-15. It sank because it struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic at night; the ship began to fill with water and sank, killing around 1,500 people. About 700 survived. -
The rescue
The survivors were rescued from the lifeboats by the RMS Carpathia. Some managed to survive in the water until some boats came to their rescue, but for many it was too late. -
the discovery of the remains
1 September 1985 was the day when the famous oceanographer Robert Ballard discovered the wreck of the Titanic by accident. The wreckage of the Titanic shows corpses trapped inside. During this investigation they discovered that the wreckage of the Titanic rests 3,780 metres beneath the Atlantic Ocean some 685 kilometres south-southeast of the coast of Newfoundland.
