This was Bobby Henderson's response to the Kansas Board of Education on their decision to allow the teachings of intelligent design to replace the ideas of evolution. This letter asked that the religion of FSM was also be used in conjunction with the two as well. The letter was soon published on his website where the internet began to latch onto the idea. -
Publication of "The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster"
Shortly after writing the letter to the Kansas Board of directors, and was funding to be written for over $80,000. The summary of this includes satirical takes on religions-- mostly creationism. The book urges those reading to try following the religion for 30 days and assures the readers that "If you don't like us, your old religion will most likely take you back.". On Henderson's website, reportedly over 100,000 copies have been sold. -
The FSM Rendition of The "Jesus Fish" Is Created
The emblem is accepted as the logo of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. This was originally created by members of the Boing Boing website. -
Swedish Concept Designer Recreates "The Creation of Adam"
A Swedish designer recreated the famous art piece, as to include the spaghetti monster himself. This is the main brand image used and usually the first image that people find. -
Kansas Board Ruling
The Kansas Board was forced to seek out a different method of teaching evolution. The Kansas Intelligent Design network came to them with concerns on teaching evolution as a fact, and instead proposed it be taught alongside the idea of Intelligent Design. Here, it would not replace the teaching of evolution, but instead, offer it as nothing more than a theory with evidence against it. -
The Production of "The Flying Spaghetti Monster; Holiday Pageant"
The Hunger Arts Theatre Company put on this production that went into detail on all the background of Pastafarianism. This production did so well that it ended up producing a sequel, two years later. -
Kansas Court Rejects Amended Science Standards From 2005
This would be the fifth time in eight years that the Kansas Board of Education would have to change their lesson plans on evolution. -
Bryan Killian Suspended for "Pirate Regalia"
Bryan Killian was suspended because he was wearing "Pirate Regalia" Killian protested the suspension and claimed that it was a violation of his first amendment right. "If this is what I believe in, no matter how stupid it might sound, I should be able to express myself however I want to", he said. -
The Pirate Graph is Created
This is a huge part of the culture of this new religion. This graph was created to demonstrate that the places with more pirates in them, had the lowest amount of carbon emissions. Of course, this is a false and misleading graph, but it is embedded into their culture. -
The First "Talk Like a Pirate Day" is Celebrated Together
This is known as a holiday celebrated at most within this religion. This correlates with the belief that ghost pirates are the main reason for the lost ships and plains that enter the Bermuda Triangle. -

A Flying Spaghetti Monster Float makes its debut in the 2009 Summer Solstice Parade. Those walking with the float dressed as pirates, as an homage to the known graph. -
Headgear Approved in Austria.
Austrian Pastafarian Niko Alm won the legal right to be shown in his driving license photo wearing a pasta strainer on his head after three years spent pursuing permission and obtaining an examination certifying that he was psychologically fit to drive. He got the idea after reading that Austrian regulations allow headgear in official photos only when it is worn for religious reasons. -

Pastafarian Arrested in Greece
Pastafarian Giorgos Loizos was arrested in Greece on charges of malicious blasphemy and offense of religion for the creation of a satirical Facebook page called "Elder Pastitsios", based on a well-known deceased Greek Orthodox monk, Elder Paisios, where his name and face were substituted with pastitsio – a local pasta and béchamel sauce dish. Denied Driver's License Photo in U.S.
In February 2013, a Pastafarian was denied the right to wear a spaghetti strainer on his head for his driver's license photo by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, which stated that a pasta strainer was not on a list of the approved religious headwear. -
Irish Driver Prevented From Wearing Headgear
A man's Irish driving license photograph including a colander was rejected by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) in December 2013. In March 2016, an Equality Officer of the Workplace Relations Commission reviewed the RSA's decision under the Equal Rights Acts and upheld it, on the basis that the complaint did "not come within the definition of religion and/or religious belief" -

Exempt From Working With Unvaxxed
The church was asked about sending vaccine exemption cards. In retaliation to the thought that religion can exempt you from receiving a mandatory vaccine, the church posted a form that you could give to your employer in the event that someone around was not vaccinated. "I am happy to announce that we are offering Official letters for those Pastafarians who would like to be exempt from working in proximity to the unvaxxed. Website Blocked on Public Networks
The creator posts about how their main website has been reported to be blocked by public networks, including places of work and company buildings. The main reason is that the website is recognized as "cult activity". The religion views this as an example of discrimination of the religion.
