    God's Promise
    Genesis 17: God promises Abraham and Sarah that they will be fruitful with many children. However, Sarai was barren. "The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her." Genesis 16:2
    So, Abraham conceived a child with Hagar (conceived Ishmael).

    An angel of the LORD came to Hagar after she fled and said "You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers." Genesis 16:11-12.
  • The Covenant of Circumcision

    The Covenant of Circumcision
    Genesis 17-Abram is renamed Abraham by the LORD. LORD tells him to born Isaac with Sarah. He promises that Ishmael will birth 12 rulers of nations. Genesis 17:20
    The LORD tells Abraham that through circumcision is how the nation of God's people will be identified.

    Birth of Ishmael and Isaac
    Sarah demands that Hagar and Ishmael be banished so Ishmael cannot share inheritance with Isaac (Genesis 21:10).
    "But GOD said to him "Do not be so distressed about the boy and your slave woman. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned. I will make the son of the slave into a nation also, because he is your offspring." Genesis 21:12-13
    Hagar was sent to the desert of Beersheba.

    Desert of Beersheba
    Hagar wandered the desert. When she ran out of water, she placed Ishmael under a bush to die. She cried. When GOD heard the cries, the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her "Do not be agraid; GOD has heard the boy crying as he lies there. Life the boy and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation."
    He placed a well of water before her. Ishmael grew up in the desert, became an archer and took a wife from Egypt.
  • Sacrifice of Isaac

    Sacrifice of Isaac
    Sacrifice of IsaacGOD demanded that Abraham sacirifice his son, Isaac. The angel of the LORD appeared and told Abraham that he need not sacrifice his son as the LORD can see that he will hold nothing from the LORD.
    God promises to bless Abraham and make descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. His descendants will take posession of the cities of their enemies and nations will be blessed because of Abrahams obedience. Genesis 22:1-19.
