The stages of a prenatal babies

  • Conception

The fertilization happens when a sperm meets and penetrates an egg. At this time the genetic makeup is complete. Within the three days of conception the fertilized egg is divided very fast into many cells. The egg with pass through the fallopian tube into the uterus, and detach itself onto the uterine wall.
  • First Month

The baby is developing the structures that will eventually form the face and neck. The embryo is developing quickly, The heart, brain, spinal cord, lungs, face, arms, legs, ears, and eyes are in progress. The heart will begin beating by the end of his month.
  • Second Month

The arms and legs are becoming longer and more shapely. The baby is a little over half an inch in size. The eyes take on color and the eyelids begin to form. The head is large and is approximately half the size of the baby's body. The brain is growing and directing movements, ( that the mother can't feel.)
  • Third Month

The baby is now called a fetus. The fetus moves often, but can not be felt by the mother. The bones begin to grow. Kidneys begin to function. The baby now has a fingerprint.
  • Fourth Month

The fingernails begin to appear. The umbilical cord is growing and is carrying blood and nourishment to the fetus. The baby's eyes can blink and the heart and blood vessels are fully formed. The fetus is beginning to grow air passage ways, but they are not fully developed yet.
  • Fifth Month

During the fifth month, the baby's hair on their head, eyelashes, and eyebrows form. The lungs begin to receive the ample amount of blood supply. Soft baby hairs (lanuga) and a protective coating referred to as (vernix caseosa) protect the baby from the amniotic fluid in the womb. The baby can suck a thumb, yawn, and make faces.
  • Sixth Month

Around this time the baby is able to have an ultrasound. The baby now weighs around 1.4 pounds and responds to sounds by moving or increasing his pulse, the rapid movements almost feel like the baby is hiccuping. By this time the baby can hear sounds.
  • Seventh Month

The fetus is gaining weight and length very rapidly. If the delivery had to happen at this time, the baby is said to survive. The baby's soft and flexible bones are developing.
  • Eighth Month

The baby's skin has fewer wrinkles as fat begins to develop under the skin. Between now and the delivery time the baby will grow up to half of its weight. A yellowish fluid will start to leak from your breast during this time.
  • Ninth Month

The brain has been developing very rapidly. Lungs are nearly fully developed. The head is usually positioned down towards the pelvis by now.
