On August 6, 1945, America dropped an atomic bomb over the city of Hirosma. It flattened four square miles of the city and instantly killed over 70,000 poeple. -
Nagasaki
The following day, America striked again, this time attacking the cty of Nagasaki. This explosion killed more than 40,00 people. Causing the Japanese Emporer to force the government to surrender on September 2, 1945. -
Nuremberg War Trials
Allies agreed that Axis Leaders should be tried for "crimes against humanity" and held war crimes in Nuremberg. This is the city of which Hitler staged his mass rallies in the 1930s. -
The Truman Doctrine
On March 12, 1947, Harry Truman created a new policy that would guide the United States for decades. He "believed that it must be the policy of the U.S. to support free people who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressure." -
The Marshall Plan
To prevent communism and to strengthen the democratic government, the U.S. offered a massive aid package, known as the Marshall Plan. THe Marshall Plan promised funneled food and economic assistance to Europe to help countries rebuild. -
