The Decembrist Revolt
The Decembrist Revolt was a revolt againt Nicholas I from taking the throne after his older brother Constantine. It was led by Russian army officers and was followed by nearly 3,000 Russian soldiers. It took place in Senate Square in St. Petersburg. The people who revolted were called, "Decembrists" and the Decembrists were deported to Siberia after the arresting and trials. -
Nicholas II becomes czar of Russia
Nicholas II reigned from November 1st, 1894 until March 15th, 1917. He was forcefully abdicated from his throne by the Bolsheviks. He was kidnapped by the Bolsheviks and was executed along with his whole family. Nicholas II was also called "Nicholas the Bloody" because of the many deaths of his political opponents. Nicholas II is the last czar of Russia. -
The Russo-Japanese War
The Russo-Japanese War started on February 8th, 1904, and ended on September 5th, 1905. It became a war with Japan because of the conflicts over Korea and Manchuria. Russia lost the war due to the unability to find more than one warm water port. Russia used a lot of land troops, but very little naval ships. -
Bloody Sunday
A priest who led the protest, and a group of workers showed up to Winter's Palace to make their demands known to Alexander II. The Imperial Guards opened fire on the protesters which killed and wounded many people. Many other strikes and protests broke out in the country. Everybody wanted change. -
World War I (Russian Involvement)
Russia had over 5,000,000 soldiers which made Russia the biggest army in WW1. They only had about 4.6 million rifles which meant that they couldn't provide everyone with weapons. Because of that many soldiers died in battle. Nearly 1.7 million soldiers died, and about 4.9 million were wounded. -
The March Revolution
The March Revoltuion started by riots and strikes that erupted in Petrograd, which is the Russian capital. The angry crowds protested for more food because of the shortages. Most of the people chanted,"Bread and Peace!" The government sent troops to restore order. Most of the soldiers refused to fire on the crowds. Some even joined crowds.Shortly after the March Revolution Nicholas II abdicated from the throne. -
Czar Nicholas II abdicates the Russian throne
Nicholas II abdicated from the throne by force. The Bolsheviks take over the government and capture Nicholas II and his family. He along with his family is executed in a house in the middle of the woods in Yekatarinburg. A provisional government is set up in the place of the Imperialistic government of Russia. -
The Russian Civil War Begins
The Russian Civil War was with the Red Army and the White Army. The Red Army fought for the Bolsheviks. The White Army fought for capitalism and monarchism. The Red Army was led by Leon Trotsky. The White Army was supported by the British, the French, and the Americans. Eventually, the war ended with the Red Army winning. -
The Creation of the USSR
On December 28th, 1922 the USSR was created. It was created to hopefully destroy the czarist rule on Russia. The USSR was created after the provisional government was overthrown. The first ruler of the USSR was Joseph Stalin. -
Vladimir Lenin's Death
Vladimir Lenin died on January 21st, 1924. Vladimir Lenin suffered from many strokes up to his death. The first one made him unable to speak for weeks, the second partly paralyzed him, and the third killed him. His legacy pretty much put communism into the USSR.
