The Decembrist Revolt
The Northern Society was made up of Decembrists, past soldiers. The Northern Society took advantage of the brief time after Czar Alexsander the First and tried to revolt. refusing to be loyal to Czar Nicholas the First, and have their provisional Dictator, Colonel Prince Sergey Trubetskoy, rule. However, this plan was poorly made and weak and they lost. -
Nicholas II becomes czar of Russia
Nicholas succeeded his father on Novermber 1, 1894 and was crowned in Moscow on May 26, 1896. Nicholas was fitted for being the czar. He learned about the military from his tutor. He also was very interested with the military when he was younger. -
The Russo-Japanese War
The Russo-Japanese War was a military-based conflict where Japan forced Russia to abandon its expansionist policy in the Far East. It was the first time that an Asian country ever defeated a European country. Losing the war ruined Russia's reputation. However, it also ruined czar Nicholas's II reputation. -
Bloody Sunday
Peaceful rotesters came to the winter palace to protest about their lifestyle, seeking help from Nicholas II. Nicholas's uncle tried to stop the march and told his police to fire on them. More than 100 marchers will killed and several hundreds wounded. -
Russia in WWI
Russia entered the war with the largest army standing with 1,400,000 soldiers. However, several thousands of Russian soldiers died. A total of 60,000 soldiers died in ONE attack against East Prussia. Along with the dead soldiers, Russia fell into economic depressio. They didn't have as much livestock, it was very cold, workers were paid less, and there were several food shortages. This cause Nicholas II to be hated. -
The March Revolution
The Russians were angry because WWI had taken a huge toll on Russia. There was food and fuel shortages. It was also very cold. The workers demanded 50% wage increase so they could buy food, 30,000 workers were locked out of work, riots got out of hand so much that even more people were killed, and Druma disobeyed Nicholas II. This was the first stage of the Russian Revolution. Nicholas II was then overthrown and the Provisional Government took over. -
Czar Nicholas II abdicates the Russian throne
When riots broke out in Petrograd Nicholas sent troops to restore order but it was too late. The government resigned and the Durma called on Nicholas to leave his throne. When Nicholas renounced his throne, his family and hinself were going to move to England, but they were taken away into the Ural Mountains. The whole family was slaughtered in the cellar of the house and their bodies were burnt. -
Russian Civil War
The Russian Civil War was a conflict where the Red Army defended the newly formed Bolshevik government against various Russian Interventionist anti-Bolshevik armies. The Red Army was successful in defending the Bolshevik government. However this was also like a defeat for the various nationalist movements of the non-Russian people. -
Creation of U.S.S.R
The Soviet Union did not officially come into existence until December 1922, when the Declaration of the USSR was signed, creating an alliance between Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and the Transcaucasian Federation, divided into Georgian, Azerbaijan, and Armenian in 1936. The U.S.S.R promoted communism throughout Europe. -
Vladimir's Death
Lenin grew up with several diseases. Assassins also tried to kill him. He had two bullets lodged into him until he died, one in his collar bone and one in the base of his neck. However, he died of brain hemorrhage at the age of 55. His body was embalmed and placed in a mausoleum near the Moscow Kremlin. Petrograd was renamed in honour of Lenin after he died. Stalin took control after Lenins death, seeing though he was his successor.
