- Russia and Japan were in compotian over territories in northern China
- Japan was more industrialized than Russia *Led to Russian revolution, people blamed the cazar, Changed to a constitutional monarchy

Bloody Sunday (January 22, 1905)
- 200,000 workers marched to present the cazar with a list of arguments and demands
- People needed relief from working and living conditions
- Police opened fire 100 killed, 3,000 injured (some say more) *Blamed the czar, created the duma, uprising across country and decreased belief in god
