As head of state, he approved the Russian mobilization of August 1914, which marked the first fatal step into World War I and also helped lead to the end of the Romanov dynasty less than three years later.

Factories at this time had grueling and vile work conditions, low wages, and child labor. This negatively impacted the daily lives of Russia.
