The Decembrist Revolt
Due to people rebeling, the "Decemberists", Imperial Russian Army brought out 300,000 men to kill everyone. This happened near St. Petersburg, and in 1925, an area was renamed St. Petersburg Square where this had happened. -
Nicholas II is crowned czar
Nicholas is crowned the last czar of Russia after Alexander III. He was not trained or prepared to rule at the age of 26 but wanted to maintain a autocracy. He also led his country into World War I which made the people hungry and starved. -
The Russo-Japanese War
This war was fought imperial ambitions in Korea with the Russian Empire and the Japanese Empire. It was the first great war of the 20th century and lasted almost two years. -
Bloody Sunday
Czar troops opened fire on protesters marching in the city of St. Petersburg, They were against the czar Nicholas II and were being peaceful. Over 500 protesters were massacared as welll causing months more of protests. -
World War I (Russian Involvement)
Russia considered Germany a major threat to them and began to fight with them in WWI. However, many Russian troops did not have rifles and the ones without rifles had to pick up dead army members rifles. The Russians were forced to accept the terms of the Central Powers and ended the war. -
The March Revolution
This revolution happened around Petrograd (St. Petersburg). This was a series of events againts the Russian government to protest what was going on. For example, workers demanded a 50 percent increase in there wages and 30,000 workers being locked out and not being paid. -
Czar Nicholas II abdicates the Russian throne
In March of 1917, Nicholas II abdicated his throne after rioters turned againts the form of socialism. Nicholas II and his family were later killed in a basement in the city of Yekaterinburg to stop any more royal members. -
Russian Civil War
A war that was fought between the Red Army and anti-Bolshevik armies. The Red Army which were made up of Bolsheviks ended up wining the 2 year war and creating the USSR. -
The USSR is made
The post-Russian Empire now turned into the Union of Soviet Socialts Republic which included Russia, Ukraine, Belarussia, Azerbaijan, and other countries. The first leader of USSR was Lenin but was later Stalin, leading the country to a downfall later on. -
Vladimir Lenin's Death
Lenin died from a brain hemorraghe at the age of 54. The city of Petrograd was named Leningrad after his great ruling as a Russian leader. He also feared Stalin becoming the next leader of the USSR.
