    The early settlement of Puritans brought on the idea that children should be educated. The puritans established a law that required towns with at least 50 households appoint and finance a teacher for the children so they could learn to read and write. This was the first time people were required to send children to school if they met the standards to do so. It opened up the idea that education was now standard.

    Creating the academy opened many doors for older children wishing to be educated. It also offered several curricular choices as well as the opportunity for women to further their education. This was the first time higher education was available to women. These schools held an importance because they later became teacher training schools.

    When Mann became the secretary of education he strove to change the way children were taught, moving from recitation and memorization to allowing class interaction, group discussions and openly ask questions when needed. Mann's influence in classrooms was significant and permanent to how education is today.

Board of education case brought education to a higher point when it concluded that education was the most important factor and was to prepare children to live as citizens in a democratic society. They also noted that the idea "separate but equal" was not . "inherently unequal". This not only impacted education history but also human rights.

    With the use and exploration of charter and virtual schools educators are working to close the gap on education. These forms of education hold different values for all different children. Charter and virtual schools are paving the way for the future of education for teachers to come.
