    Ratification of the Constitution
    The Constitution was created to amend the Articles of Confederation because of the lack of power. Tension grew as states contemplated whether or not to ratify. Two groups with different ideas emerged. The Federalists claimed that the constitution took into consideration the fears people had and wanted a strong army to prevent Indians attacks and rebellions.The Anti-Federalists argued that a strong national government would take rights away from states and individuals and wanted a Bill of Rights
  • Jay's Treaty

    Jay's Treaty
    The treaty was an attempt to resolve the conflict between the US and Britain over British attempts to restrict trade with France. After the war broke out in 1793 between Britain and France, the The Federalists thought that it was best to proclaim neutrality quickly to satisfy British fears that the US would fight with France. However, Democratic-Republicans wanted to use the crisis to gain acceptance from the British. In the end, Washington passed the Proclamation of Neutrality.

    Election of 1800
    After a grueling campaign against Burr, Jefferson was elected. He believed in limited government that fostered freedom.This lead to the conflict with Federalists. Jefferson wanted to cut the bureaucracy to create small federal government, he cut the size of the army and navy, he founded West Point to replace Federalist officers with Republican officers, wanted less federal judges. Through all of Thomas Jefferson’s actions, the Federalist party and its ideas began to slowly be eliminated.
  • Hartford Convention

    Hartford Convention
    The Hartford Convention was organized by Federalists to discuss the grievances of the Federalist party. They proposed to end the Three-Fifths Compromise and to require two-thirds of both houses of Congress before declaring war, new states, or ban on foreign commerce. By the time the demands were formally brought to the capital the war had ended, however, news of New Orleans Battle made Americans feel victorious and brought patriotism which caused the Federalists’ requests to seem unpatriotic.
