    Under this leadership by Charles Martel, he was able to united the lands of all the Franks under his rule which is pretty historic for this time because due to the social hierarchy and religion at this time having a massive united land under one rule was impressive.

    The army led by Charles Martel completely destroyed the Mohammedan invaders into the land and thus was made out to be a great historical hero during this time.

    Charles Martel dies

    After the Battle of Tours and before his death, Charles developed the heavily armored, mounted warriors that the Kishlansky called the Frankish cavalry. Charles left a scorched earth policy against his enemies that left the enemies land desolate for decades.

    In 768 Charlemagne who was the son of Pepin the short, who was crowned king of the franks in 751, becomes king of the franks just 17 years after his father.

    During 800 Charlemagne, king of the franks, was crowned emperor by Pope Leo III at Rome which is a huge title for Charlemagne and thus further extended his influence during this time.

    The 1st Partition

    Due to Charlemagne's intention to split up his empire among his sons, but only Louis had survived him so he divided his kingdom among his three sons. Due to this the authority of the clergy in politics was weakened.

    When Louis was remarried after his wife died he had a son and this caused Louis to give a portion of his other son Louis and gave this land to his new son. Then Louis of Bavaria did not appreciate his father giving away his land but after four years of war the father Louis gave his new son another child's kingdom.

    The Treaty of Verdun

    Shortly after The 2nd Partition there was peace among the entire family until Louis dies. After about three years of war the brothers banded together and hashed out a division known as he Treaty of Verdun. The new son received what we call France currently, another son received Germany, and another son receives Italy, Luxembourg, Hungary.

    The son that received Italy emerged as emperor when Louis the Pious died. He received the center most portion due to the Treaty of Verdun and when Lothair dies his kingdom was divided among his three sons.

    Charles the Bald dies

    The new son that inherited Pippins kingdom was invaded by his brother Louis of Bavaria, Charles had to flee to Burgundy. He was also getting invaded from outsiders so he had paid a heavy price to force their retreat several times. Charles died when he was returning from a trip that was helping Pope John VIII repel Saracen invaders.

    Louis the Child dies

    Louis the Child reign constantly had to wage war with Magyar invaders, as he aged he tried to assert more control over his army but was not very successful against these invaders. When his army was finally destroyed in 907 and the fact he had no children signified the Carolingian dynasties end with his death in 911.

    End of The Carolingian Empire

    By the end of this century the Middle Kingdom as we had known dissipated and the Carolingian empire was divided between France and German Empire, with new ruling dynasties.
