- this compromise helped keep a balance between the slave and the free states -
Nullification Crisis
- people were fighting because of tarrifs
- the southern states thought the tarrifs only was helping the north and was killing ad making people go bankrupt in the south
- John C. Calhoun said anyone could nullify
- Henry Clay came to a conclusion by lowering the tarrifs

Compromise of 1850
- this argument was over if the new territories won from mexico would be slave or free
- California was now a free state
- slaver trade was abolished in Washington DC
- the congress did not band slavery from the other territories from mexico
- Henry clay made the comprimise

- passed by the congress
- this act allowed people to capture slaves that ran away to from the south to the north
- set the stage for john Browns raid because of all the arguments about this
